
This converstion with Greg Berman, former longtime CEO of the Center for Justice Innovation and author of the Small Sanities Substack, is both like and unlike a lot of previous conversations I’ve had in the anti-woke liberal space. It’s like it because Greg and I are liberals who’ve developed critiques over the last decade of some of the tendencies of those to the left of us. We flesh out some of these critiques in the criminal justice space.
It’s unlike a lot of my other conversations, though, in that it’s kind of an upbeat story. Greg happens to work in a space where good things have been happening for quite a while. Crime has been going down for decades now, thanks in no small part to the work of groups like his, and incarceration has been going down as well (though not quite for as long as crime rates have been doing down)
