This was a really interesting conversation! I think we may hail from roughly the same area of the Northeast, although my Texas experience was in San Antonio and while I admire the place I don’t think I could live there! My interest in Elon I’ll admit is mostly the existential horror of the man-that he’s that wealthy, that powerful, that possibly the future and still so desperate to be liked by randos that he’s frying his brain on social media every day, it’s something genuinely quite grim!

Yeah it is rather terrifying. Though at the same time I find myself amused that he's inadvertently destroyed Twitter, or at least its capacity to affect the discourse to the same degree, and in so doing has inadvertently done humanity a great favor. Like if he were less bizarre and petty we'd still be living with bad, humanity-destroying Twitter. Obviously we can't trust him to keep accidentally doing us favors by being petty and immature, but still. As for living in Texas, I continue to like living Austin, though it's also nice to be able to spend much of the summer up in New England, away from the heat and not too far from the ancestral homeland.
